Not exactly if you consider that you picked Brooke 2nd and I picked Carly 3rd. We each got 3.

Of course you are b/c it skews the results to make it sound like you did better. But, we both know, you didn't.

Does anyone else feel like this year's final is a bit anti-climactic since we pretty much knew who would be in it weeks ago?

Wow. Great first round. I agree Archy took it but it was like a 9.7 vs. a 9.5.

Whatever happens, at least the right 2 ppl are in the finals.

Round 2...same as the first. Both good, Archy was a little better.

Round 3 to Archy...easily.

I think Cook may have phoned this one in. Anyone else think he might NOT have wanted to win?? Avoid the contract???

Maybe it was me, but Cook sounded really hoarse tonight.
Archuleta definitely came to win it tonight.
Cook pretty much summed up his thoughts on the night before he ever sang the first song.
"As far as I'm concerned the competition is over and tonight we are just having fun"
Clearly Archuleta didn't feel the same.

But as wrong as I have been about other things, I could be very wrong about this too. So, I won't call the winner, but we all know who I picked and I wouldn't change it if I could.

Dial Idol has Cook winning easily which, after last night, is highly unjust.

DialIdol hasn't exactly been reliable this year. You need to interpret the data. It could be that Cooks fans were acting in urgency because his performances last night weren't as strong as they could have been. Neither contestant brought anything new to the table, though.
Al, you know I'm a huge fan of conspiracy theories, but I doubt Cook was throwing the win. Not a bad theory, though. It was very uncharacteristic of him. He's certainly capable of nailing those notes. He did sound a little off. They said his brother was there again, though. Might have made him emotional. I dunno.

I think everyone's minds were made up going in, though. Nothing happened last night to change anything. Like I said, no one brought anything new. Archy even went as far as bringing back a known fan favorite to ensure none of his fans changed their minds at the last minute.

We'll see tonight!

Interesting data now that DialIdol provided their final data.
Here are the average placements for each contestant in the top12 this season.

  • 1 David Cook: (avg place) 2.2, finish up 1.2 places
  • 2 David Archuleta: (avg place) 1.7, finish down 0.3 places
  • 3 Syesha Mercado: (avg place) 4.9, finish up 1.9 places
  • 4 Jason Castro: (avg place) 5.2, finish up 1.2 places
  • 5 Brooke White: (avg place) 4.6, finish down 0.4 places
  • 6 Carly Smithson: (avg place) 5.4, finish down 0.6 places
  • 7 Kristy Lee Cook: (avg place) 6.2, finish down 0.8 places
  • 8 Michael Johns: (avg place) 5.4, finish down 2.6 places
  • 9 Ramiele Malubay: (avg place) 8.8, finish down 0.3 places
  • 10 Chikezie: (avg place) 7.3, finish down 2.7 places
  • 11 Amanda Overmyer: (avg place) 7.5, finish down 3.5 places
  • 12 David Hernandez: (avg place) 11.0, finish down 1.0 places

Half of the contestants finished within 1 place of their average DialIdol placement. Among the standouts, Overmeyer and Chikezie simply weren't around long enough to establish a good average placement. The surprises:
  • Michael Johns finished nearly 3 places worse than his short-lived average. I think everyone agrees he went too early.
  • Castro finished just a little more than 1 place better than his average. Not too far off.
  • Syesha finished approximately 2 places higher than her average. Her average was helped greatly by surviving past halfway. You all know what I think of that finish.

Another interesting analysis:
Comparison of this contest's picks, versus the DialIdol average finish.
  • 1 David Cook: (contest place: 5.3), which is -3.2 worse than DialIdol.
  • 2 David Archuleta: (contest place: 1.2), which is about the same (+0.6) as DialIdol.
  • 3 Syesha Mercado: (contest place: 4.9), which is the same (+0.0) as DialIdol.
  • 4 Jason Castro: (contest place: 7.7), which is -2.4 worse than DialIdol.
  • 5 Brooke White: (contest place: 4.3), which is about the same (+0.4) as DialIdol.
  • 6 Carly Smithson: (contest place: 5.4), which is the same (+0.0) as DialIdol.
  • 7 Kristy Lee Cook: (contest place: 6.9), which is about the same (-0.8) as DialIdol.
  • 8 Michael Johns: (contest place: 4.6), which is about the same (+0.8) as DialIdol.
  • 9 Ramiele Malubay: (contest place: 7.5), which is +1.3 better than DialIdol.
  • 10 Chikezie: (contest place: 9.0), which is -1.7 worse than DialIdol.
  • 11 Amanda Overmyer: (contest place: 8.6)- (-1.1, not enough data)
  • 12 David Hernandez: (contest place: 6.2)- (+4.8, not enough data)
The only significant standouts, to me, is the following:
  • Cook over three places lower than the DialIdol audience, on average.
  • Castro over two places lower than the DialIdol average.
  • Ramiele also had a somewhat higher favor with this group than the DialIdol audience.
  • Although Hernandez only lasted one week and finished with an "average" 11th place DialIdol finish, this group did have him significantly higher, with an average pick of 6.2.
